Home Theater Wiring

One of the biggest hassles to a home theater installation is the wiring. The cost of properly wiring your home theater system can be outrageous unless you find some creative ways of running your home theater wires. Here you will find tips on selecting the best cables, solutions to running wire and how to develop you home networking plan.

How to select Home Theater Cables
I can't tell you how many people I talk to spend thousands of dollars on their home theater components and forget about purchasing quality cables. Without quality cables for your home theater, your audio and video will never reach their peak performance. Remember, not all home theater cables are created equal. We recommend using Monster Cable which can be found by going to Shop the Outlet Store at RadioShack.com. Monster Cable will provide a great quality cable at an affordable price.

Wiring Surround Sound Speakers
Running wires to rear channel speakers can be a challenging task. I have walked into many friends "home theaters" to see cables hanging from the ceiling or running through the middle of their living room floor. Their are two easy solutins that anyone can use. Running the speaker wire under the molding or running the speaker wire under the carpet.

If you choose to run the speaker wire under the molding carefully pull back the carpet in one corner. Begin placing the speaker wire in the corner. Gently push the cable under the molding moving along the wall.

Is you choose to run the cable under the carpet you will need to use a flat speaker wire. Place the speaker wire under the carpet and padding. To fish the speaker wire to the speakers attach any small magnetic material. Use a strong magnet to pull the wire across your room to the desired location.

Wiring for Home Networking
The best option for wiring your home theater is to include it as part of your home networking plan. With home networking you can easliy control all your lighting, video, audio, heating and more from one centrally located control panel or remote.

Wiring is the key to developing a home theater plan that includes networking. Make sure that you include wiring for any component that you will ever want. Even if the component is currently in your budget, it may be in the future. Having a home theater that is wired and ready for future upgrades is an enormous benefit of home networking.
